Julian at 7 Months

Julian turned 7 month old yesterday (28 December 2007). We weighed ourselves on our bathroom weighing scale while carrying and while not carrying him to estimate his weight. Horrors! He's only roughly 7.5kg. We agree that this is not the best way to weigh a baby but we really wonder why he's not gaining weight well. Anyway, there's no appointment at the clinic this month. So, we'll have to wait until he's 8 months old to know his actual weight.

We believe he has been feeding well, at least until he's satisfied and does not want anymore milk (about 5 1/2 to 6oz), cereal or porridge. He's currently taking 1 "chinese" bowl of cereal for lunch and 1 bowl of porridge at tea time.

We still face the every-night challenge of putting Julian to bed (no, we don't put him "to sleep"). He's into the habit of being carried to sleep, sometimes with much fuss and crying. So, we have tired pairs of hands. Please excuse us if we refuse to help you carry heavy loads.

On the plus side, Julian can now sit unaided for longer periods now, sometimes even with his hands off the ground.

[Wobble wobble... easy does it...]

[Daddy, I'm tired... please can you put the camera away and carry me?]

Happy 7mths to Julian.. :)
Ok.. Angie and Bart.. we made the same mistake with the brat too.. and it is still not late for you to change the habit.. else.. you are gonna be very tired parents. You could try watching a movie with him.. rather than carrying him.. or walking him.. like i did with chloe. We are all creatures of habits.. the sooner you change your routine.. the easier it will be for you . ;) trust me..!! well of course this is just my 2 cents worth.. and you donch have to listen.. ;) but i wished someone told me about it.. when the brat was younger..!! now.. ! aiyoh..!! hard time still..!!

chinese bowl? wah, that's a lot! my almost 6 mths old baby takes 8 scoops (i use the Enfalac small spoon) of baby cereal once a day only.

Don't worry too much about the weight. Julian too takes a long time to gain weight and I remember it took months before he went passed 8kg and then we waited months before he went passed 10kg. Most importantly, he is eating well and is healthy.

Agree with Mamabok about sleeping habits. The switching period is not easy but the faster you change it the better.

mamabok, yjia: Thanks for the advice. Am trying our best not to carry him so much to sleep and to tolerate his wailing.

huisia: Not that much actually... it's the chinese rice bowl and he doesn't take a full bowl, roughly two-thirds.

yvy: Peter and Gladys are no longer maintaining their blog.
